Apple vs. Asparagus By Tracy Wainwright

apple kindle free books

Asparagus wants to play with Apple, but is turned away because he’s a vegetable. Apple runs off with his friends Apricot and Avocado. Soon, more fruits and vegetables join the two sides, each arguing their group is the best. Iceberg Lettuce comes along and says no, those thing don’t matter. The greens should stick together. Will these healthful foods ever figure out that they are all nutritious and good?

Apple vs. Asparagus is a fun and exciting way to introduce children to explore the world of fruits and vegetables. Who knew there were so many?! My twin boys comment as we read about foods they were familiar with, which were their favorites and which ones they must try next! I love how the list of fruits and veggies at the end of the book encouraged them to “check them off one by one” as they set a goal taste each one. They also notice the life lesson built into the story in that we should treat everyone with the same kindness and respect no matter our color! I would recommend this book to teachers and librarians as the lesson is great for all kids … and adults! Well done Tracy!

A wonderful lesson in not judging a book (fruit or vegetable) by its cover. It includes the alphabet, too! The book introduces children to so many different fruits and vegetables, it is bound to encourage them to try something new!
